Youth In Action was formed in 2010 by a group of young people from Winterveldt with the aim of helping needy families in their community. They have identified  over 1000 families that struggles with meals on a daily basis. Without funding but help from the local churches and community members, they managed to get donation of food parcels and donated to those families. 2021 they received food parcels for 300 families from the Department of Social Development. Your donations makes a difference to these families and we thank you for sharing the little you have.

Meet the founders

Percy Shabangu

Head Of Departments (HOD)

As a co-founder of Youth in Action, Percy’s journey in the realm of dramatic arts traces back to his early years, where the influence of his mother and older brother, both active theatre artists, ignited his passion for the craft. In 2010, Percy embarked on his creative arts journey at the Bokamoso Youth Centre in Winterveldt, Pretoria. His talent and dedication led him to secure an audition victory, earning him a spot in a group slated to perform dramatic arts, poems, and music in the United States of America in 2011.

During his time in the United States, Percy had the opportunity to engage with Creative Arts Professor Lesley from George Washington University, further enriching his artistic perspective. Since then, Percy has showcased his talents as a director and performer in various provinces and competitions, including notable events such as Shashalaza and local art festivals. Notably, he has served as an assistant director in the Sgandaf TV series.

Beyond his contributions to the arts, Percy’s academic pursuits have been equally impressive. He holds an advanced diploma in Theology from Kingdom Network Ministry and a Diploma in Law Certificate from the University of South Africa (UNISA), which he obtained in 2021.

Percy’s passion for storytelling is evident in his role as a writer, director, and performer, where he endeavors to share life-changing narratives. Additionally, he remains committed to nurturing emerging talent in the communities of Winterveldt and Soshanguve, reflecting his dedication to the advancement of the arts at a grassroots level.

Gift Khumalo

Coordinator

Gift, the co-founder and music director of the Youth in Action organization, originally hails from Winterveldt. His journey in the arts began with a resounding victory at the Bokamoso Youth Centre art audition in 2010, where he showcased his talents in music, dance, and dramatic arts. This achievement propelled him to join a performance group that toured the United States of America in 2011, marking the beginning of his international engagement in creative endeavors.

Since then, Gift has been actively involved in the creative arts scene across various provinces, participating in competitions and establishing himself as one of the leading actors in the Sgandaf TV series. His adeptness in musical direction has been integral to numerous plays and productions.

In addition to his artistic pursuits, Gift has been deeply involved in peer education at Tshwane University of Technology (TUT), where he dedicated his time to teaching fellow peers about health-related issues. His commitment and leadership qualities led him to serve as the Public Relations Officer (PRO), later ascending to the position of chairperson, and ultimately becoming a mentor to other peer educators.

Furthermore, Gift has played a significant role in Student Governance and Leadership Development (SGLD) at TUT. Starting as a junior at Top Enterprise, he progressed to Top Adventure as a junior before evolving into a facilitator. In his final year, Gift assumed the role of mentor for facilitators at SGLD. His facilitation skills have opened doors for him in the realm of team-building facilitation at private game reserves, and he currently assists Inspire Life Coaching with facilitation.

Despite his diverse engagements, Gift remains passionate about his profession as a software engineer. His love for his work is paralleled by his dedication to helping others develop and succeed in their endeavors.
